Are you holding your SUP paddle correctly?
In this tip, Michael Booth explains how proper hand position improves your power and efficiency.
Top hand:
✔ Apply pressure through the palm
✔ Keep fingers relaxed, not tight
Bottom hand:
✔ Maintain a loose grip
✔ Avoid gripping too hard or too soft
Key checks:
• If your pinky lifts off → you’re reaching too far
• If you grip too tight → you lose stroke efficiency
Hand positioning:
✔ Aim for ~90° at both elbows
✔ Bottom hand about one hand-length down the shaft
Balance is everything:
Too low = more pull, less top-hand power
Too high = more push, less control
Find your balance and stay relaxed for a smoother, more efficient stroke.
