AFS Presents “Lanzarote: The Last-Minute Mission”

Read

There is something about a last-minute foil trip that often makes it better than one planned months in advance. Less time spent worrying about forecasts and logistics, more time simply chasing conditions and seeing what happens. For the AFS crew, a competition trip to the Canary Islands presented exactly that opportunity.

With Axel, Alan and Milla already in the Canaries, the decision was made to jump across to Lanzarote and make the most of what the island had to offer. It is a landscape that feels purpose-built for an adventure like this. Volcanic, exposed and relentlessly shaped by the Atlantic, Lanzarote offers plenty for foilers prepared to explore beyond the obvious spots.

The resulting film, “Lanzarote: The Last-Minute Mission,” follows the crew as they hunt down everything from mellow foil waves to open-ocean swell, eventually scoring a beautiful left-hand point break on the final day. It is as much about the trip itself as the riding, with missed connections, board bags, ferries and the usual chaos that comes with moving a crew and a pile of foil gear between islands.

Here’s the story from AFS…

Some of the best trips come together at the last minute. This was one of them.

Our team riders Axel, Alan and Milla were already in the Canary Islands for a competition, so we called them up with a simple question: want to go on another adventure one island over?

After some quick plan changes, a few ferries we barely made, and a long wait for board bags at the airport, we all somehow ended up at a little house right in the middle of Lanzarote.

Lanzarote is a harsh place. It’s covered almost entirely in lava, and there’s not much shelter from the elements. It’s windy almost every day, and there are waves almost all year.

We rode mellow waves that only a foil could love. We chased open-ocean swell way off the point of the island. Then on our last day we found a perfect left-hand point break.

We found everything we were looking for: epic wave riding, good company, and a grand ol’ time.
