This issue’s Tech Focus features Takuma’s brand new Efoil Carver 2

Takuma brought Efoiling to the masses with the original Carver, in its 2nd edition they’ve upped the game but kept the more affordable price tag compared to some other brands. The Carver model is designed for riders of all levels looking for a heightened energetic sensation and an incredible gliding experience. Efoiling is a fantastic way to learn to foil, cruise up the coast, carve around buoys or even glide into small waves. Expect to see more and more of these on the water!

The Carver 2 has tons of updates and refinements that we’ll discuss below all designed to minimise drag and maximise comfort for the best carving experience. The new redesigned board is compact yet proficient in volume, it provides superb performance and excellent responsiveness underfoot. The new lighter setup is ultra-soft on touch down and with the combination of a seamlessly balanced volume, it is super stable prior to, during, and after take off.

Board dimensions

This new board shape has ‘Gravity-Deck’ innovation and is 5’3” x 28” 120L. A great volume for stability without compromising on turning ability. Takuma has installed a unique curved deck contour and carefully thought out volume distribution for more control & stability. The unique Gravity-Deck contour is curved for a natural lower front foot stance, this forces water down as you take off giving you better control, acceleration, and exceptional balance.

It is designed to make it comfortable underfoot during manoeuvres as it creates a natural kick for your back foot.

New internal compartment

This reduces the weight and a new internal EVA block: adds buoyancy and protects the ESC

New deck handles

For ease of carrying on land and mounting once in the water

Bluetooth antenna

A new external antenna maintains a consistent Bluetooth connection, even under waves or if the board sits underwater before take off for heavier riders.

Electronic Speed Controller (ESC)

An Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) can be thought of as the brain of an efoil, a complex processing unit that allows it to move at the pull of a trigger. Takuma has radically reduced the size and weight of their ESC, making the overall weight of the Efoil much lighter and more efficient, which in turn reduces the battery consumption allowing for even longer sessions.

Remote control

The Carver 2 features a completely new remote control design with a built-in secure waterproof housing. It is quick to connect and intuitive to use, helping you feel in control from your very first ride. It has an integrated security system that shuts off the remote when it comes in contact with water. It allows you to intuitively set and maintain your speed for an effortless glide. Feel the need for an extra kick, the turbo boost feature has you covered. It has improved visibility of battery levels, low battery warning, and a buoyant leash for ease of holding and extra visibility.

Propulsion

Sleek and compact, the new propeller is discreet yet powerful, allowing you to gain even more speed. With thinner and lighter components it eliminates drag and delivers an ultra-smooth hydrodynamic performance.

Front wing

Takuma’s exceptional Kujira wings have become infamous for their astonishing glide. The revolutionary carbon wing design delivers unmatched control and stability, allowing you to foil confidently in swell and make aggressive turns at a high speed. The Carver 2 features a Kujira Helium 1500 full carbon wing set and a 178 back wing

Battery

The compact battery gives you a riding autonomy of up to 90 minutes, depending on conditions and rider’s level. This is substantial time for a complete workout. It’s a 43.2v/35a Lithium battery with a quick charge time and a visible charge level. It’s easy to interchange between sessions, has effortless low & high-speed control, and is smooth and stable to take off on.
