The Ozone Fusion V3 Ultra-X is a double-surface ram-air wing built for racing and high-performance freeriding. It is aimed at experienced intermediate, advanced and expert riders who already have reliable tacks, gybes and aerial handling. The enclosed profile is designed to reduce turbulence beneath the wing and preserve aerodynamic efficiency at speed, while the Ultra-X construction uses a lightweight Aluula airframe to keep overall mass closer to that of a conventional single-surface wing.

Third-generation profile

For the V3, Ozone has straightened the leading edge, reduced sweep at the tips and shortened the span for each nominal size. The wing is also thinner and carries more camber. These changes are intended to lower drag, improve light-wind drive and make the tips easier to manage during powered manoeuvres. The sizes have been aligned with IWSA and World Sailing projected-area rules: the 6.0 sits close to the previous V2 6.5, while the new 7.0 is larger than the former 7.3 when measured by the updated system.

The patented double-surface layout encloses a pressurised ram-air profile using internal ribs and miniribs. Size-specific air intakes are larger on the bigger models to fill the structure efficiently, while four drainage openings and internal mesh pathways help water leave the wing after a fall. Ozone nevertheless positions the Fusion as a performance and race product rather than a wing for repeated heavy wipeouts or wave use, where frequent submersion would work against its more complex enclosed construction.

Ultra-X construction

The leading edge and strut use Aluula, with GH-124 material reinforcing the central leading-edge panels. Ozone attributes higher tensile and tear strength, as well as meaningful weight savings, to this laminate compared with conventional airframe cloth. The canopy and internal surfaces use lightweight Teijin TechnoForce 2x2 double ripstop. Internal reinforcements, overlap flat seams and strengthened high-load areas support the pressurised structure, while a streamlined tip junction is intended to limit unnecessary drag.

Access zips in the lower surface allow servicing of the bladder and internal areas. Fast Flow valves simplify inflation and deflation, and the Direct Connect strut creates a firm junction with the leading edge. Easy View windows maintain visibility to leeward. The leash attachment has been moved forward on sizes from 6.0 square metres upward to suit their balance, while it remains in the previous position on the 5.0 and 5.5.

Boom and trim

A revised carbon boom uses supported interfaces intended to eliminate movement between the grip and airframe. At the rear of the boom, a Clamcleat leech-line adjuster gives the rider direct access to trailing-edge trim while on the water. This allows the wing's tension and response to be tuned for changes in wind strength or course without returning ashore. A fixed harness line supports sustained powered riding, while the swivel leash and waist strap form the standard connection system; wrist and quick-release options are available for alternative setups.

The Fusion rewards precise technique. Ozone recommends smaller, controlled pumps and an emphasis on the front hand, allowing the aerodynamic profile to keep flying rather than forcing it through large movements. Correct leech trim is important, and the wing's inertia differs from a single-surface design. Its efficient drive, enclosed lower surface and rigid controls are therefore best used by riders who can maintain speed and execute transitions consistently.

Six sizes are offered: 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0 and 7.5 square metres. A padded technical bag and a separate sand bag are supplied to help protect and manage the wing around the beach and race area.

Summary

The Ozone Fusion V3 Ultra-X is a specialist race and high-performance freeride wing for skilled riders seeking efficient upwind drive, speed and precise trim control. Its double-surface ram-air profile, lightweight Aluula structure, revised planform, rigid carbon boom and on-the-fly leech adjustment define its principal strengths.
