25 Miles from Kaupo | Maui’s Wildest Foil Run

The last time Andrea Moller and I did the Kaupo run was in 2021 — and it was honestly one of the hairiest things I had ever done in the ocean. It was me, Andra, Dave Kalama and Craig Correa. I was on a 5’10” x 23′ board, and a 1250 cm2 foil!
When we finished that day, I wasn’t exactly looking forward to doing it again.
But over the years, I kept wondering: “what would Kaupo feel like on the new generation of foil gear?”
Foiling has changed so much since 2021. The boards, foils and overall efficiency have reached a level that we could only imagine a few years ago.
And, because doing the normal run apparently wasn’t enough, we decided to make it bigger.
The traditional Kaupo run is roughly 15 miles. This time we stretched it to **25 miles**, taking us farther along Maui’s wild and incredibly remote coastline.
There aren’t many people I’d choose to do a mission like this with other than Andrea Moller. When you’re committing to a long run through a remote section of Maui, having a partner you completely trust makes all the difference.
This run was also a pretty amazing demonstration of just how far foiling equipment has come.
For boards, Andrea and I are both riding the Kalama Performance Gator.
Foils: I am on the KT Solus 775. I am so lucky to have support from KT. On Maui, we’re surrounded by people constantly experimenting, designing, testing and pushing this sport forward, and the people at KT are simply the best at doing just that. That progression is a big part of what inspired us to go back and see Kaupo through a completely different lens. Andrea is riding a F4 685. A really capable wing, it goes fast, slow and turns, a great adventure wing.
Andrea and I are both wearing FAED Modular Offshore vests. https://faedsupply.com/ These are a MUST for anyone that is going out of bounds on off shore adventures, and thank you to Florence Marine X for hooking me up with clothes build for ocean adventures. Twenty-five miles off a remote Maui coastline is exactly the kind of day where you appreciate having equipment you can trust.
Five years after that first intimidating Kaupo experience, we went back.
New equipment.
A longer route.
The same wild stretch of ocean.
Thanks for watching – 25 miles from Kaupo.
And this time, it felt very different.
