The Starboard iGnite Foilboard is a freestyle-specific wing foil board developed for riders who want a compact platform for jumps, rotations and rapid recovery after touchdowns. Starboard bases the concept on its iGnite Air windsurf model, transferring that freestyle emphasis into a dedicated wing board. The resulting range combines short outlines with balanced volume and relatively generous widths, aiming to provide the support needed for controlled landings without losing the quick response required for progressive manoeuvres.
Shape and Touchdown Recovery
A V-shaped nose is central to the design. It is intended to meet the water cleanly from a range of landing angles, soften contact and help the board redirect into another take-off. The rocker line remains comparatively flat to promote speed and quick release, while the nose vee is tuned to help the board rebound after a touchdown rather than slowing abruptly. Sharp chine rails and a rounded diamond tail support clean water release and controlled transitions.
Starboard distributes volume to maintain a thin, direct standing area over the foil while placing additional buoyancy around the rear foot. This is designed to keep the connection to the foil precise and give the tail enough support to recover after a jump. A subtle tail rocker around the foil box contributes lift during landing recovery. The width across the range is deliberately generous for a freestyle board, providing a more stable platform when a rider returns to the water at speed.
Sizes and Intended Riders
The range comprises 90, 72, 54 and 44 litre models. The 90 litre board measures 5'2" x 25.5" and is positioned as the most accessible option, with Starboard indicating a 90 kg wing-foil rider weight. The 72 litre version shares the 5'2" length but narrows to 23.5" and is associated with an 80 kg rider. The 54 litre board is 4'6" x 22" for a rider around 70 kg, while the smallest 44 litre model measures 4'3" x 20.5" and is aimed at lighter riders or stronger-wind use. These figures are manufacturer guidance rather than absolute operating limits.
Foil Connection and Construction
A 12-inch US-track foil box gives room to adjust foil position while keeping the installation compact. The Carbon Reflex Sandwich construction uses a full 3 mm PVC sandwich, a carbon deck wrap, standing-area reinforcement, biaxial carbon around the rails and a PVC Omega stringer ahead of the foil box. Starboard presents this lay-up as the light, highly responsive option for repeated freestyle loads, and offers it in all four volumes.
The 72 and 90 litre boards are also available in XTEC Carbon. This construction uses an expanding epoxy structure, a carbon load-frame rail band, carbon reinforcement around the foil box and extra reinforcement around the stance and inserts. It prioritises impact resistance and everyday durability while retaining structural stiffness.
Summary
The iGnite Foilboard is a focused freestyle wing board for riders seeking compact handling, supportive landings and fast rebound after aerial manoeuvres. Its vee nose, balanced rear-foot volume, controlled rocker and reinforced construction options are its principal supported strengths.
