Olly Bruton recently discovered what he calls a hidden gem in the Armstrong Foils lineup—the Mid-Length ML-38. While originally on the hunt for a smaller prone board to complement his trusty Surf32 for foil and tow surfing, Olly found himself drawn to the ML-38. At 4’9” x 17” and 38L, its shape felt familiar—similar to the boards he’s designed himself (like his 4’7” x 17” x 2.5”, 32L model). Despite the slightly higher volume than he was initially aiming for, curiosity got the better of him, and it paid off.

For Olly, the ML-38 has become the perfect crossover board for a multi-disciplinary foil athlete. “I’m stoked I chose the ML-38 over a smaller surf model,” he says. “I get so much more use out of it.”

While not featured in his video review, Olly adds that at 6’1” and 75kg, he recommends the ML-38 for capable surf foilers in the 65–90kg range looking for a groveller board on smaller days. It’s also a great choice for wing foilers in the 50–80kg range (who already own a larger board) and want to start adding surf foil to their quiver.
