Ozone is proud to celebrate Mathis Ghio, crowned winner of the first-ever Formula Wing World Championship in Cagliari, Sardinia. This landmark event, held from September 23 to 28, marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the fast-growing sport of wingfoiling.
Mathis’ latest achievement adds to his already impressive collection of four IWSA Wingfoil Racing World Series titles, multiple European titles, and a speed record of 41.40 knots on his Ozone Fusion, featuring its patented double surface design.
Last week’s Italian regatta was the first official, winner-takes-all Formula World Championship event, presenting challenging conditions with light winds that delayed racing and ultimately led to the cancellation of the much-anticipated long-distance Golden Ticket race.
Competition shifted to knock-out rounds in light breeze until the gusty Mistral wind finally arrived, testing athletes’ adaptability and skill. Ghio rose to the challenge, navigating a series of close-fought battles. His consistency, speed and ability to perform across varying conditions proved decisive, securing him the inaugural Formula Wing World Championship title.
“Winning this World Championship has been one of the most intense events of my career. We raced over 20 heats during the week in extremely varied conditions — from 5 to 22 knots. It was a real success for Wingfoil Racing to showcase such a wide wind range, proving once again that our sport is growing fast and carries strong ambitions for the future. I am extremely happy to take this World Title. The level was very high and every day required consistency, speed and focus. The medal race finals consisted of four races, and were particularly demanding. I learned a lot about myself that day, both mentally and physically.
The emotions were huge. I went through every possible feeling, and in the end winning the very last race to secure the championship was simply unforgettable. Adding this title is a proud moment, and I want to thank everyone who supported me throughout the week.” – Mathis Ghio

10th – Thomas Proust (FRA)
15th – Michele Capitani (ITA)
19th – Kai Mirel (USA)
On the women’s side, Aimilia Kosti from Greece delivered a fantastic result, claiming 3rd place, further evidence of her rapidly growing reputation amongst the world’s best in this, her first full season of competition.
She was joined by an impressive line-up of Ozone athletes in the top ranks:
6th – Anais Mai Desjardins (FRA)
7th – Krishna Chalupnikova (CZE)
8th – Katarzyna Trautman (POL)
12th – Monika Mikkola (FIN)
13th – Yana Li (CHN)
14th – Paloma Gutierrez (ARG)
16th – Lilou Balanca (FRA)
18th – Cindy Robert (SUI)
Still to come in 2025
The spotlight now turns to the final Wingfoil Racing World Cup in Brazil this December, where Ghio (hoping to secure his 4th back-to-back IWSA Wingfoil Racing World Series Championship) has a super close battle with fellow Ozone rider, Kamil Manowiecki, once again. We wish the best to them and their fellow Ozone Fusion riders, as they battle to close the season on a high!
