OC4 Downwind sailing in Maui!
January 1, 2026
Zane Kekoa Schweitzer and Sule Gordon from the Kahākūkahi Ocean Academy team relocate ʻAʻo downwind from Honokahua (Flemings) to Kahekili (Airport Beach) to prepare for an upcoming free youth mentorship day on Maui.
ʻAʻo is a Hawaiian inspired sailing canoe built by Tiger Canoe on Moku o Keawe (Big Island). It is an OC4 Makaha hull rigged with a double ama setup and a small 3-meter windsurf sail, designed to handle the strong West Maui and Pailolo winds.
This run supports KOA KAI Day at the Beach, one of Kahākūkahi Ocean Academy’s free community programs rooted in ocean safety, cultural connection, and environmental stewardship.
All KOA programs are free for Maui Nui families.
